THE OPHTHALMOLOGY THE INTERNIST EXPECTS

Abstract
The importance of the eye related with systemic diseases can be emphasized by the fact that 38% of all fibers in the central nervous system are concerned with its function, and that it is the only place in the body where blood vessels and nervous tissue can be seen directly.
So, it is understandable that functional and organic changes of the eye may produce disturbances of the other organs of the body, and vice versa. It is essential in understanding of pathogenesis, confirmation of diagnosis and evaluation of course of disease, that we are acquainted with the correlative relation of ocular disturbances and systemic diseases.
The author briefly discussed ocular manifestations of the systemic diseases and emphasized the close cooperation of the ophthalmologist and internist in the management of patients.
